Smartphones are becoming more advanced day by day and new features are added to them. In the last few years, we have seen the addition of various sensors to these smart devices, each of which could meet many different needs of users. Developers and programmers all over the world also use these sensors and hardware capabilities available on smartphones to create a variety of creative applications and games. One of the most basic features of smartphones is having a microphone for sound transmission, which has become much better in recent years. Developers have also used this hardware to build all kinds of applications, one of which is to measure the sound intensity of the environment using it. Sound Meter Pro is an application for accurate measurement of sound intensity for the Android operating system, developed by the Smart Tools Co software group and published on Google Play at a price of $1.99. This program works by using your phone’s microphone and can calculate and display the ambient sound level in decibels. It can also categorize the environment in terms of the amount of sound in it and declare that this amount of noise is suitable for which environments. You can also see the amount of sound drop and rise by a momentary graph.

SPL(sound pressure level) meter app uses your microphone to measure noise volume in decibels(db), and shows a reference. We calibrated a lot of android devices using an actual sound meter with dB(A).

REMEMBER!! Most smart phone microphones were aligned to human voice (300-3400Hz, 40-60dB).
Therefore maximum value is LIMITED by manufacturers, and very loud sound(100+ dB) cannot be recognized. Moto G3 (max.80), Galaxy S6 (85dB), Nexus 5 (82dB), HTC (82dB)…
You can trust the result in routine-noise levels (40-70dB). Please use it as an auxiliary tool.

Vibrometer uses the phone sensors to measure vibration or an earthquake, and it shows a reference as a seism detector.

The measured values are related to Modified Mercalli Intensity scale (MMI). If it is inaccurate, you can calibrate it so that maximum value is about 10-11.
Please use the results only for reference because android devices have a wide variety of performance and sensitivity.
